Surya Week is a programme based on one of the permanent exhibitions of the Children’s Museum. This programme is organized by the museum from time to time and its primary objectives are:
· To provide children extensive information about the ultimate source of heat and energy i.e. the Sun in all respects.
· To provide participants an opportunity to understand the various phenomena related to the Sun through numerous interesting activities and practical experiments.
· To not just create awareness among children about the various non-conventional sources of energy but also provide them an opportunity to make use of the same themselves.
The Surya Week starts with a pre-test followed by an orientation programme and a visit to the exhibition ‘Surya’. During this programme, children are exposed to the various aspects related to the Sun in detail through multiple activities that include informal interactions with astronomers, visits to places related to the subject like planetarium, ancient observatories like the Jantar Mantar and the Non-Conventional Energy Resources Centre. Besides, children also get an opportunity to use solar energy themselves for cooking food. The programme ends with a post-test. The results of these pre-tests and post-tests help in further improving this programme and activities of the museum.
